Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS₂) Supplier
MoS₂
Hayes Chemical Solutions sources and supplies molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂) for industrial lubrication, grease additives and coatings. We welcome technical fine grade enquiries from UK and international buyers, with specification and supply terms confirmed individually.
About this product
Molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂) is a naturally occurring inorganic compound and one of the most effective solid lubricants available to industry. Its layered crystal structure — in which planes of molybdenum atoms are sandwiched between planes of sulphur atoms — allows the layers to slide over each other with very low friction, even under extreme pressure and temperature conditions.
In technical fine grade form, MoS₂ is used as a dry film lubricant, as an additive in lubricating greases and oils, and as a component in anti-wear and extreme pressure coatings. It performs reliably where conventional liquid lubricants would fail — in high-load, high-temperature, vacuum or chemically aggressive environments.
MoS₂ is widely used across aerospace, automotive, heavy engineering, defence and specialist industrial manufacturing. It is valued for its ability to reduce friction and wear, extend component life and maintain lubrication under conditions where other lubricants cannot function effectively.
Key industrial applications
Dry Film Lubrication
Applied as a dry lubricant to metal components and surfaces where liquid lubricants are impractical — including high-temperature, vacuum and chemically aggressive environments.
Grease and Oil Additives
Incorporated into lubricating greases and oils as an extreme pressure and anti-wear additive, enhancing performance under high load conditions.
Anti-Wear Coatings
Used in spray and bonded dry film coatings applied to fasteners, bearings, gears and other precision engineered components.
Aerospace and Defence
Specified in aerospace and defence applications where reliable, long-lasting lubrication is required under demanding operational conditions.
Heavy Engineering and Automotive
Used in the assembly and maintenance of heavy engineering equipment, automotive components and specialist machinery.

Particle size is an important part of a MoS₂ enquiry. Provide your required particle-size distribution, purity and impurity limits, together with the intended grease, coating or dry-lubrication application. Do not assume that a grade described as technical fine has the same specification across suppliers.
What to include in your enquiry
- Product form, grade and acceptance specification
- Required quantity and expected repeat demand
- Intended industrial application
- Delivery country, postcode and required date
- Packaging preferences and documentation requirements
Molybdenum Disulphide: buyer questions
Is molybdenum disulphide the same as MoS₂ or moly disulphide?
MoS₂ is the chemical formula for molybdenum disulphide, also spelled molybdenum disulfide. Moly disulphide is a common shortened name. The CAS number is 1317-33-5.
Can I enquire about technical fine molybdenum disulphide?
Yes. Send your required particle-size distribution and acceptance specification. Technical fine is a grade description, so the actual size and purity requirements should be confirmed for the proposed supply.
Which applications does this page cover?
Industrial applications include grease additives, dry lubrication and coatings. The suitability of any proposed grade depends on your formulation, process and performance requirements.
How do I request a MoS₂ quotation?
Provide the grade, particle-size requirements, purity, quantity, packaging preference, delivery destination and required date. Pricing, documentation and availability are subject to confirmation.
